Admissions Process for University of St. Thomas ABSN Program
Are you ready to jumpstart your nursing education through the University of St. Thomas Houston’s Accelerated BSN (ABSN) program? Here are the first steps in the ABSN@UST admissions process.
1. Talk to an admissions counselor
The University of St. Thomas ABSN admissions process begins as soon as you complete the form on this website. Doing so lets our admissions team know you’re ready to discuss your academic qualifications and nursing career goals and determine if you’re a good fit for our program. On this call, you’ll connect with an admissions counselor who will serve as your main point of contact throughout the rest of the admissions process. It’s also during this conversation you’ll have the chance to have your questions answered and receive more details about the program admissions requirements.
2. Make an academic plan
Once your admissions counselor determines your eligibility for our ABSN program, he or she will work with you to design a plan to ensure you meet your target start date goal — either January, May or August.
3. Complete prerequisites
While ABSN@UST doesn’t require you to have any prior healthcare experience to apply, you must meet certain academic requirements. Your admissions counselor will help you register for all the necessary prerequisite courses, then check in periodically to help you stay focused and on track to pass these courses with the minimum grade requirement of C or higher (B- or higher for Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II and Microbiology).
Please note: You do not have to complete the prerequisite requirements prior to submitting your application.
4. Take the Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) Admission Assessment exam
To be admitted into our accelerated nursing program, you must take all five component tests of the HESI Admission Assessment exam — reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, math and anatomy and physiology — and pass with a score of 80 or higher (required 80% in each of the following sections: Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary, Math, and A&P).
With all the above steps finished, you’re ready to complete the ABSN program application.
